Henry Ford Health Systems Benefits

Benefits

At Henry Ford Health System, we believe in providing Total Rewards, a program as diverse as the people it serves. We offer dozens of options for all of our health care jobs in Michigan, including compensation, benefits, work/life balance and learning - options that enhance your career and add value to your personal life. This includes traditional and non-traditional benefits such as:

Medical, vision & dental care

Henry Ford Health System offers five different medical/vision options to meet your family's needs. We also offer three dental options with varying levels of coverage and co-pays for you and your eligible dependents.

Employee & dependent life insurance

Flex Benefits offers seven life insurance options - in increments ranging from one to four times your salary or in fixed amounts of $10,000, $25,000 or $50,000. Full-time employees cannot opt out of life insurance. Part-time employees are eligible for the fixed amounts of life insurance.

Flex Benefits also provides Dependent Life Insurance options on an after-tax basis. Because of IRS regulations, no pre-tax dollars or flex credits may be used for this coverage. You can choose from five coverage options for your spouse and children in amounts ranging from $1,000 to $50,000.

Accidental death & dismemberment (AD&D) insurance

AD&D insurance protects against financial hardship when you or a covered dependent suffers an accidental death, loss of limb, paralysis or loss of sight. Six coverage options are available in increments of three, four or five times your salary or in fixed amounts of $20,000, $50,000 and $100,000. You can elect coverage for yourself only or include your family.

Long-term disability (LTD) insurance

LTD provides a source of income if you are unable to work due to a serious illness or injury. Three levels of income replacement are available including 50%, 60% and 70% of your base annual salary.

Flexible spending accounts (FSA)

Maximize your tax savings by participating in a health care or day care flexible spending account (FSA). You can contribute up to $3,000 per year for the health care FSA and up to $5,000 per year for the day care FSA on a pre-tax basis. Any money left in the account at the end of the year is forfeited. The IRS calls this the "use it or lose it" rule.

Flex Benefits provides full-time employees with flex credits to help purchase benefits. Full-time employees can opt out of flex benefits (with the exception of life insurance) and receive taxable cash back in their paychecks. Flex credits for part-time employees are applied to the medical/vision options to lower these costs; part-time employees who opt out of benefits do not receive cash back.

Domestic partner benefits

Henry Ford Health System provides the opportunity to purchase medical/vision and dental coverage for same-sex domestic partners. The premiums you pay for this coverage are taxable to you.

Additional benefits

Henry Ford Health System provides additional benefits that are not part of the Flexible Benefits Plan. They include:

Adoption assistance

Adoption assistance is available up to $2,000 for full-time and up to $1,000 for part-time benefit-eligible employees with one year of service. Assistance goes toward expenses incurred in the adoption process. The lifetime maximum benefit is $10,000.

Combined Time Off (CTO) & holidays

The CTO program combines vacation, sick and personal time into one bank to provide greater flexibility in using paid time off. All non-management, full-time and part-time benefit eligible employees accrue CTO based on service hours paid during a pay period. Service hours consist of hours worked and paid time off, not to exceed 80 hours per pay.

Henry Ford Health System observes six holidays.

CTO sell-back program

Employees may elect to return between 20 and 80 hours of CTO per year and receive cash back.

CTO donation program

Employees may donate CTO to another employee who is in a "catastrophic" situation and has exhausted his or her CTO bank.

Short-term disability (STD) insurance

Full-time and part-time employees receive short-term disability coverage effective the first of the month following six months of employment. Full-time employees receive 60% of their base weekly pay up to $1,500 for 26 weeks. Part-time employees receive 60% of their base weekly pay up to $750 for 26 weeks. The CTO bank must be reduced to 80 hours before benefits begin.

Tuition assistance

With professional and personal development in mind, full-time employees receive up to $3,000 and part-time employees receive up to $1,500 in tuition assistance per year including books and registration fees. Classes must be part of a degreed program at an accredited college or university.

Retirement

Our pension plan is 100% paid for by Henry Ford and offers full vesting after three years of service for eligible employees. An optional retirement savings plan with a variety of investment options includes pre-tax employee contributions and a matching contribution by HFHS. All employees also are offered the opportunity to contribute pre-tax to a tax-sheltered annuity 403(b) account.

Ford Motor Company, Chrysler & General Motors discount plan

Full-time, part-time and contingent employees and their spouses can purchase up to two discounted cars per year with this exciting program through Ford Motor Company, Chrysler and General Motors.

Child care center

Henry Ford employees have access to the Henry Ford Kids Child Care Center, accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). The center has programs for children ranging from six weeks to age five. Its close proximity to our Detroit campus on West Grand Boulevard, Health Alliance Plan and the corporate office makes it ideal for lunchtime visits.
